If you want to annoy a meteorologist, ask him or her a question about stars, nebulae, comets, galaxies, or some other astronomy topic. It’s very common for people to assume that meteorologists study things like this – especially since the word “meteor” is in “meteorology”. So what’s the connection between the word “meteor” (as in the chunks of rock or metal that fall from the sky) and “meteorology” (the science of forecasting the weather)? As you’ll hear in today’s episode of Weather Break, even professional meteorologists often don’t know.
